What a weekend it’s been

This weekend is only half over, and already it’s been one of the best in USD athletics history.

Consider:

• The USD women’s basketball team has hosted the North Central Region Tournament. The Coyotes (30-1) are one victory from an Elite Eight Berth.
• Terry Liggins won a national title in the 60-meter hurdles at the Division II meet.
• Emma Erickson (a freshman) won a national title in the 800-meter run at the same meet.
• Jill Smolczyk won a national title in the 1-meter diving competition at the Division II meet. She was named the D-II Women’s Diver of the Year.
• The USD women’s swimming & diving team took 10th at the national meet.

I’d say that’s quite a successful two-day span.
