First, a disclaimer: Of all the nicknames we media types give athletes, the one affixed to Louie Krogman is by far my favorite. Louie Legend. Classic.
White River senior Louie Krogman scored 28 points Thursday night to break South Dakota’s all-time boys basketball scoring record. Krogman eclipsed former Lake Norden standout Don Jacobsen’s 50-year-old record of 2,826 points.
Why is this important to The Volante’s sports blog?
Simply because Krogman is coming to USD next fall to play basketball for the Coyotes - who enter their first year in Division I next season.
Without question, Krogman is one of the best pure shooters to ever play in this state. And he joins a long list of highly-recruited basketball players to commit to USD. Before Louie Legend, there was Josh Mueller, Mitch Begeman, Eric Hall, Dustin Little and Tate Pesicka (to name a few in recent years).
It’ll be interesting to see how Krogman fits in with USD’s inside-out offensive scheme. But I have no doubts that he’ll be another excellent fit and will join a deep Coyote roster next season. Keep an eye on Louie Legend; he’ll be a great one.
