The USD football program came oh so close to losing another coordinator. This time, it could have been offensive headman Todd Hoffner.
Last Tuesday. Division III Wisconsin-Oshkosh passed on Hoffner and chose Pat Cerroni as its new head coach. Read this story in the Oshkosh Northwestern.
As Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s interim head coach last season, Cerroni guided the Titans to a 7-3 record and a third-place finish in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Two weeks ago, USD defensive coordinator Jim Glogowski accepted a position as head coach at Simpson College, a D-III school in Iowa.
The silver lining here is that Ed Meierkort is running such a solid program that his assistants are landing on short lists for other coaching gigs. Remember, two years ago, USD offensive guru Glenn Caruso took over D-III Macalester College.Even without a defensive coordinator, we all know Meierkort can sell anything to anyone. So I wouldn’t worry too much about this year’s recruiting class.
