From a USD Sports Information press release:
Three players from the USD football team have been named to the Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Northwest Region football team. Amos Allen and Christian Morton have been selected as first team members, while Tim Schneider was named to the second team.
No real shocker here as these were three of the main reasons why the Coyotes had one of the best rushing attacks in the North Central Conference and the Northwest Region.
Of these three, I think Morton and Schneider have the best chance of continuing to play football in the NFL, CFL, or one of the numerous indoor football leagues.
The reason I don’t think Allen has a great chance is the fact that former Coyote Stefan Logan got some looks by NFL teams. Yes, he did sign with the Miami Dolphins, but to my knowledge, has yet to see any playing time in live game action.
Allen and Logan are similar sized players and have similar running styles.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t want to see Allen playing at the next level. I certainly do. I just think he has a harder road to go.
But don’t write off Allen. He’s a guy who walked on at USD and didn’t get much help from head coach Ed Meierkort or any of the coaches. Meierkort wasn’t sold on Allen until a couple weeks info fall camp, even though Allen had an impressive spring and broke several nice runs during scrimmages.
Eventually, Meierkort warmed up to Allen and gave him scholarship help midway through fall camp.
That kind of drive and determination could help land Allen in the NFL or in a higher level of football.
Congrats to Morton, Schneider and Allen and best of luck with whatever their futures hold for them.
