In an announcement earlier this week, the USD Coyotes football team earned five players on the All North Central Conference first team.
Senior running back Amos Allen, senior wide receiver Brooks Little, senior center Christian Morton and senior left tackle Tim Schneider were all named All-NCC first team offensive selections. Senior outside linebacker Justiss Scales was the team’s lone first team selection on defense.
Junior inside linebacker Tyler Bergan, senior defensive end Zach Johnson, senior kicker Frank Leibfarth, senior defensive end John Morales, sophomore punter Tim Stanek and senior right guard Nick Walters were all named All-NCC second team.
Senior tight end David Cronin, sophomore corner back Isaiah Dixon, junior inside linebacker Blake Hojer, sophomore quarterback Noah Shepard and junior corner back T.J. Simmons were all named honorable mention All-NCC.
There weren’t any surprises as far as the USD players who were selected to the teams that they were. Congrats to those player who were selected.
Some notes on the rest of the NCC team:
Most Valuable Offensive Lineman: Ben Hochstein, Nebraska-Omaha (second consecutive season)
Most Valuable Offensive Back: Zach Miller, Nebraska-Omaha
Most Valuable Receiver: Weston Dressler, North Dakota (second consecutive season)
Most Valuable Defensive Linemen: Rob Lewis, Nebraska-Omaha
Most Valuable Linebacker: Jeff Souder, Nebraska-Omaha
Most Valuable Defensive Back: Randy Kush, Nebraska-Omaha
Coach of the Year: Pat Behrns (second consecutive season)
The one arguement that could be made is if Miller deserves to be MVP back. If Amos Allen would’ve thrown the ball a little bit maybe he would have had a chance because Miller was pretty much a running back playing quarterback for the Mavs. Oh well, congrats to Zach.
As one can tell from looking at the MVP selections, UNO dominated. This could really be UNO’s year as having homefield should really benefit them because I don’t see Central Washington coming in and beating up on them. If UNO wins, that sets up an amazing meeting between either UNO and North Daktoa or Grand Valley State. Either game would be amazing to see.
