USD/UNO build-up

Without question, this week is already one of the more exciting build-ups to a football game.

All summer and even during the season, we’ve all looked at the Nov. 1 matchup between USD and Nebraska-Omaha and said to ourselves, ‘that’ll be a big game.’ Every game between the two schools is meaningful, but this year’s version is much more important. USD now has a legitimate shot to play for a North Central Conference title.

Three weeks ago, the Coyotes were 3-3 and many fans were starting to get restless. Yeah, the teams USD had lost to were very talented, but that was no consolence for USD fans. We all knew that if the Coyotes were to again qualify for the Division II playoffs, they’d need to beat Western Washington, Augustana and MSU-Mankato and come into the game against Nebraska-Omaha at 6-3.

That’s exactly what USD has done.

Whether or not you think the Coyotes (6-3, 5-1 NCC) can beat the Mavericks (8-0, 6-0 NCC), you should still be impressed with how USD has turned its season around and put itself in this position.
