Thursday morning, I had the opportunity to speak with MSU-Mankato head football coach Jeff Jamrog. His Mavericks (4-4, 2-3 NCC) face the USD Coyotes (5-3, 4-1 NCC) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside the DakotaDome.
The Volante: How are you preparing for USD?
Jamrog: We’re just trying to get better right now. We need to improve on what we do and how we execute our plays, rather than focus on our opponent. If we don’t come with our best game, we’ll have a hard time winning.
The Volante: How will your team rebound after last week’s loss to St. Cloud State?
Jamrog: We’ll find out Saturday how we rebound. We just didn’t play with passion you need to win at this level. It was just an ugly game.
The Volante: How do you like the DakotaDome atmosphere?
Jamrog: It’s an interesting place to play, I’ll tell you that much. I’m a big fan of grass or field turf, but hey, I’m not playing anymore (laughs). But when you have two powerful offenses like you’ll have Saturday, it’ll be a fun game to watch.
The Volante: How has quarterback Ben King evolved as a leader this season?
Jamrog: He’s gotten better at so many little things. As he goes, our team goes. He’s a tremendous leader; he’s our Brett Favre.
