In the first Northwest Region rankings today, the USD Coyotes football team was ranked No. 6.
Why? We at The Volante aren’t sure. But we’ll take it.
The Coyotes (3-3, 2-1 NCC) are one of SIX North Central Conference teams that are ranked in the top 12.
Here’s the top 12
1. Nebraska-Omaha (5-0)
2. North Dakota (6-0)
3. Grand Valley State (5-0)
4. Central Washington (4-1)
5. Ashland (3-1)
6. South Dakota (3-3)
7. Winona State (5-1)
8. Michigan Tech (4-3)
9. MSU-Mankato (3-3)
10. Indianapolis (5-1)
11. Hillsdale (4-2)
12. Minnesota-Duluth (3-3)
Keep in mind, the top six teams from each region advance to the Division II playoffs. So, if the playoffs started today, USD would be in. That’s right. As it stands right now, USD IS A PLAYOFF TEAM.
I know, it’s hard to believe. Especially after our last blog entry.
And with its next three games against Western Washington, Augustana and MSU-Mankato, the Coyotes could easily reel off three straight wins. And USD still has to face the top 2 teams in the region.
So breathe Coyote fans, there is hope for a postseason berth.
