This just in from the USD athletic department:
VERMILLION — Thursday night’s football game between The University of South Dakota and the University of Nebraska-Omaha will be televised nationally by CSTV and with their announcement today, FSN will be televising the game regionally. CSTV will broadcast the game live from Al F. Caniglia Field in Omaha, [...]

Oh, the possibilities of the internet…

I usually don’t count my eggs before they hatch, but there is a good possibility that the Volante Sports blog could be doing live blogging from the game in Omaha this Thursday night.
This is the most important game of the year for USD, as both North Central Conference title and playoff implications are ridding on [...]

USD/UNO build-up

Without question, this week is already one of the more exciting build-ups to a football game.
All summer and even during the season, we’ve all looked at the Nov. 1 matchup between USD and Nebraska-Omaha and said to ourselves, ‘that’ll be a big game.’ Every game between the two schools is meaningful, but this year’s [...]

Sunday Quarterbacking

If you haven’t heard: the Coyote football team have won their 23rd straight home game, you should probably click right here.
If you have heard the news, congratulations. This is where I step back and think about the game after seeing it for myself.
I said before and during the game that Ben King and the Minnesota [...]

Q&A with MSU-Mankato coach

Thursday morning, I had the opportunity to speak with MSU-Mankato head football coach Jeff Jamrog. His Mavericks (4-4, 2-3 NCC) face the USD Coyotes (5-3, 4-1 NCC) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside the DakotaDome.
The Volante: How are you preparing for USD?
Jamrog: We’re just trying to get better right now. We need to improve on [...]

Hey NCC, just pick ONE

Apparently, the North Central Conference office prefers selecting co-offensive players of the week, rather than growing a pair and choosing one honoree.
After rushing for 260 yards and three touchdowns, USD running back Amos Allen was named the NCC Co-Offensive Player of the Week — sharing the award with Nebraska-Omaha QB Zach Miller.
Don’t get me wrong, [...]

USD win in SF = increased alumni support?

Saturday’s 38-17 win for the USD Coyotes football team over the Augustana Vikings was important for more than winning the North Central Conference title or making the Division II playoffs.
While those are both very good important factors for this football team, a win over Augie in Sioux Falls is important because of the large alumni [...]

USD 38, Augie 17

Just got back from the game in Sioux Falls, and I must say, it was a PERFECT day for an outdoor football game. It’s Oct. 20 and it actually felt hot. No offense to the DakotaDome, but a Saturday afternoon outdoor game is where it’s at.
Oh yeah, the game. The Coyotes easily handled Augustana 38-17 [...]

Football: Region Outlook

While every week is a chance for the USD Coyotes football team to move up from their No. 6 spot in the Northwest Regional rankings, this week has a few games in which teams ranked in front of the Coyotes could lose.
Let’s start at the top. No. 1 Nebraska-Omaha hosts Minnesota-Duluth. The Mavericks are 6-0 [...]

USD can play with SDSU

A couple weeks ago, the Argus Leader ran a story about South Dakota State Athletics. What a shock right? I look through the Argus and I don’t see an SDSU story in sports I have to pinch myself.
Anyways, in this story, Director of Athletics Fred Oien ran his mouth again about USD. What he had [...]
