For this first entry, let’s talk about Louie Krogman.

Krogman, a White River (S.D.) senior, for those of you who don’t know, is nearing the all-time career basketball scoring record in South Dakota. He’s been the talk of the state for the past few years and has been recruited by such “big-time” schools as: SDSU, UND, NDSU, Winona State, Loyola-Chicago (Ill.) and Wofford (S.C.)

But Monday, he confirmed to The Volante that he has verbally committed to play at USD.

This is a HUGE pickup for Dave Boots and the Coyotes, espcially with the move to Division I next year.

Here’s a snippet of the story you can read in this week’s Volante.

VERMILLION — All it took was one official campus visit for Louie Krogman to make up his mind.

After attending Saturday’s USD-St. Cloud State football game and spending time with members of the men’s basketball team, the White River, S.D. senior verbally committed to play basketball for the University of South Dakota.

It marks USD’s first verbal commitment for the 2008-2009 season - the university’s first year in the transition to Division I athletics.

“The D-I move is going to be pretty exciting. I love the atmosphere in Vermillion; it’s just a good fit for me,” Krogman told The Volante Monday afternoon.

“I’m used to the small-town life. So I could really see myself being there.”
